  Company Background

Founded in 1995 as a web hosting and development company, DB|Wired has tuned its services to meet the growing need to outsource not only development, but also the complex duties and facilities associated with fully redundant, reliable, web applications. The many challenges associated with Internet based applications of the 90's rightfully made outsourcing the infrastructure and services required to make such complex applications work popular. DB|Wired has capitalized on this need with steady growth by expanding from one data center in Berlin, Connecticut to Hartford and most recently Boston. Currently, hundreds of successful companies rely on DB|Wired for their hosting, development and database needs.

Mission/Philosophy

DB|Wired's mission is to be a complete solutions provider for client's database, web, application development and hosting needs. The company seeks distinctive competence not only in the quality of its products and solutions, but also by providing easy one-stop shopping. DB|Wired prides itself on customer service and simple systems that accomplish complex functions. The company always strives to choose the best tool for the task--not to use trendy, often needlessly expensive solutions.

About the Principals

Eric A. Schuler, Partner and Chief Executive Officer

Eric graduated from Harvard University in 1983, Cum Laude and was a two-time Harvard College Scholar. It was at Harvard, and later at The University of Vermont, Eric received his education in applied math and computer science.

In 1988, Eric joined Twin Oaks Sports and Fitness as controller for the largest health and recreation company in Vermont, eventually becoming a partner in 1990 with the existing ownership group, led by Wolfgang Leibmann, former director of software development for IBM. In 1991 Eric co-founded TOSD, a software development firm specializing in vertical market software for health and recreation companies, completing major software projects for the Professional Golf Association and Healthtrax International.

Eric was a pioneer in the movement to change the emphasis in software sales from license fees to services, a strategy that has recently proven successful for companies like IBM and Oracle Corporation. At TOSD, software was provided to clients at no or minimal fees in order to obtain service income including: electronic funds transfer, credit card processing, billing services, collection services, technical support, on-site support, and training. This strategy helped to propel Twin Oaks to become one of the largest software companies in Connecticut. At TOSD, Eric took a "hands on" management approach directly participating in the development of many software projects including: accounting, banking, collections, billing, video imaging, point of sale, and contact management. Eric coded many software modules himself in addition to managing development teams. Most notably, Eric co-developed several electronic payment systems for TOSD including secure payment gateways for electronic funds transfer and credit card processing, currently useful for doing business on the Internet.

In 1995, Eric founded Kilroy's Internet, a national Internet Service Provider specializing in dial-up Internet access, frame relay, and web hosting. Kilroy's Internet later branched into DBwired, Inc.
